Having recently installed ccleaner, I find it stops adblock plus working, and as soon as ccleaner is removed, adblock start again. Opening ccleaner> etc, dosen't give an opportunity to untick adblock, so I've removed it until I can find an alternative cleaner, or an adblock stopper that won't be affected by either cleaner, any idea's please?

Something weird with your config, I have CCleaner and adblock and there's no conflict0

Never heard of that conflict. I'd unistall CCleaner and run a few scans with MBAM and antivirus just in case.0

I have uninstalled ccleaner about five times and reinstalled it and it made no difference. Happy to remove it again and scan with MBAM if I knew what it was, I have the paid version of avast installed. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. Laz123, I removed ccleaner, googled what MBAM was, installed it/ran and scanned. I will try ccleaner again, but need to see what HOSTS is all about.
PS, oh my lord Dogmary, that HOSTS looks far to technical for me.This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
The only technical thing you need to know is ... download it, make sure it is called hosts (and not hosts.txt or anything like that), then copy it to your Windows\system32\drivers\etc folder.

Since doing the MBAM scan, I really believe my laptop is better. Better in that it is more responsive, swifter in loading etc. Would this be as a result of the things the MBAM scan found and quarantined?
Because I have limited time this evening, think I will leave the HOSTS till tomorrow. Appreciate your time helping me.This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
I'd also suggest running a boot scan with Avast. It does it in DOS. I ran it once and it picked up a nasty I was unaware of.0

Hi all, just a note on this HOSTS file thing. A lot of click-through links weren't working for me and I forgot I'd applied the HOSTS file thing suggested above.
Upon removal, all links are working again in explorer and chrome. it was a particular problem as links from topcashback and google were mainly failing to work. SO, if you're having such issues, and use the modified HOSTS file, that's probably the reason.
hope this helps someone in future!Friendly greeting!0 -
Are you accepting the default install for CCleaner? It can amend browser settings and install a browser toolbar. During installation, untick any offer for extra installs - this might be in the Custom Install settings.0
