Can anyone recommend any decent home CCTV kits with night vision camera and HDD recorder?
My dad got a professional to supply & install a CCTV on his place but they used cat 5 cable; the ones I have seen on the high st all use coaxial/bnc cable which seems more difficult to route around a house and pass through walls.
any suggestions welcome as I like to try a DIY install if possible.

You can use Cat5 cable and analogue cameras with BNC connectors using a balun to convert cable type.
However the professional system may have been IP cameras.A kind word lasts a minute, a skelped erse is sair for a day.0 -

I have the Swann H.264 DVR with three cameras connected, the motion detection works well and while the video is acceptable for an inexpensive home security system it is not crystal clear I can just read my car number plate at about 15mtrs anything less than that is quite good, must admit I have not used the App but looking at the manual it states that you can set up an email alert service.0 -

havent connected it yet but will certainly let you know(moving in in about a month)its a 1 TB 12 channel setup i got at maplins a few months ago, think it came with 6 bullet cameras and a purchased an additional 6 from screwfix....it has the app that allows you to tap into the cameras while you are out, or even home you can load up the app your tablet and have a look at whats shaking outside :j.just checked maplins dont look like they do it anymore but was a half price deal(they do them alot on their kits so worth a look)....
wont be anything crystal clear, i'm not expecting this, more of a detarant than anything else really...thats reflected in the price, but for a DIY kit its prolly the best on the market from what i have read....0
