My No Claims Bonus is decreasing!

I have gone to renew my car insurance and the renewal letter tells me I have 7 or more years no claims bonus - I actually have 24+ years!!! When I have approach another company they tell me they can only accept 7 years, and my quotes are therefore higher than if the correct number of years were accepted. Anyone have any idea how I can change this please?

Ask the insurer you are leaving to send you written confirmation of the number of claim-free years from when you joined them and that you have made no claims during their period of insuring you.

This is a common issue with some insurers only being interested in five claim-free years for their NCD.

I keep all my renewal notices, so I can evidence what I had each time I insured anew.

I am trying to do that but getting the run around! Unfortunately I have just 'edited' a lot of paperwork so don't have any earlier stuff - lesson learnt!

Result - after 15mins on hold -being swopped to different people, I spoke to a lovely lady who has agreed to send out a letter stating I have 20 years no claims. hate to think of the phone bill!

Probably makes zero difference to the quote. Who is giving you more discount for more than 7 years?

If you are looking for the best price then look at the bottom line, not for companies who advertise a bigger discount for 20 years NCD.
