I would still love to know what that means.

It means he thought he was the odd man out.

A white man in a predominantly black area, or vice versa. Or a Welshman in china town, or an indian in an Irish commnity etc. etc.

Basically, he didn't think he fitted in with the other inhabitants of the area because of his race. He doesn't say what the actual inhabitants thought.
  • Even airport security need your permission for a search.

Would be wasted money on a flight ticket though if you refused.

I would have told him that he wasn't any more entitled to search you than you were entitled to search him and that you were going to go first.

Or you could have said I'll let you search me if I can search you first.
A work colleague told me that his wife complained that the security guard followed her every time that she visited a local supermarket so one day he went with her, they entered the store separately and the husband observed the security guard following his wife around the store, he sidled up to the security guard and asked "why are you watching that woman"? the guard said "because she's a known thief". Needles to say big complaint to the manager profuse apology security guard never seen again.

Yes , I've suggested this too.
You could say " you show me yours, and I'll show you mine."

I remember when a local holiday park changed owners about 15 years ago, officially it said on sign no drinks from outside were allowed to be brought into premises but the bar was next door to the park shop and you would see people walk out of the bar, into the shop and back in and even saw people walk in drinking cans or bottles of juice.

There was 3 bars on the site and my mother especially was stopped pretty much everytime she went to a bar, and it wasnt just a quick look in bag they would go through the entire bag and take items out and ask what they were, even accused her once of having hidden alcohol in perfume bottle! But the worst time was one time I went with her to the over 18's bar and I did notice the guy was staring at us strangely and as we walked to door he demanded to see in my mums bag and my small carrier bag(which yes did have a bottle in it as I was on medication at the time, as well as some sweets as I was a teenager) when my mother refused he grabbed her bag off her and started going through it and so she went to grab it back and he pushed her away, I took it off him and we walked off and he followed us out of the building and down the road and kept radioing in.

We got back to caravan and told my dad who stormed up to main reception and told the security manager about the problem who just laughed a little and said they can do what they want, so my dad told him unless it was sorted he would call the police.

The guy laughed in his face so my dad did phone the police, was quite funny to see the security manager and all the spare staff who were looking at us and grinning before that suddenly look like they had soiled themselves, but the guy tried to say he was innocent and my mum was acting suspicious, they did random searches on people and she wasnt singled out(yet I used to hang around the complex all day and I stood outside a bar once as that was where the game machines were and over 3 hours they only stopped 1 person, same very day we were there) the manager called the security guard across who first said he had CCTV to prove she was suspicious but as soon as we said he assaulted her he suddenly claimed the CCTV was down(only that one camera in entire park and stopped working about a hour before we went in)

Only problem was the police were not interested and backed up the park but didnt realise my dad was a ex policeman so he knew the law and also knew the head of the local force(he worked with him back when he was a policeman), a quick call to him and the policemen suddenly were on our side and told the company off.

After that no more bag searches for the entire holiday, suddenly got a free £30 voucher for the shop and upgraded to half board, they did try and get my dad to sign a legal document though to say he wouldnt take it further and he refused.
