oven depth help

Our kitchen fitter has not allowed sufficient room for the oven (we do not have an oven at the time of the build, but said he'll fit it when we have it to hand).

The boiler waste pipe is running over the gas instead of underneath, so it's consumed 2cm.

We have 52cm total depth in the units now. The oven we ordered requires 56.7cm (54.8+19) total depth based on illustrations here: http://www.bosch-home.ie/our-products/cooking/ovens/ovens-range/HBN331E2B.html

I did not check the dimensions prior to ordering.

I have a few questions. The dimensions of these oven - are they the depth of the metal chassis of the unit or do they include the hose sticking out of the back as well? If it's the hose then we have some room to play because the minimum depth of the uit is 52cm. But other parts go all the way to the wall. we might be in luck and the hose could have plenty of room where it sticks out of.

According to the installation diagram, the figure you need to worry about is 54.8. The 19mm is the depth of the door which sits outside the front of the cabinet.

However, it's still not enough. The only thing you can is get the pipes rerouted.

I have a similar problem. My existing oven has a depth of about 52cm. The gas pipe for the hob runs up against the wall behind the oven, so the maximum depth available for the oven is 53.5cm.

I will need to replace my oven at some point soon and despite extensive research by me and two separate kitchen places, there are no regular size ovens less deep than 55cm.

I've bottled out for now, but will have to look at moving the gas pipe if it can't be channelled into the wall behind it.

When fitting kitchens we always run the gas pipe to the hob in the cupboard to the left or right of the hob and then bring it across at high level to the hob. Most ovens have a cut out at high level to accommodate the gas pipe.

Yes, sorry should have said. I have 52cm from the recessed bit.

So total depth is about 52+1.7-1.9. Still too short. I have looked around and all the ovens seems to be 567mm total depth precisely. Which tells me that is the standard so I'm going to push them to reroute everything.

All the carpentry is covered and they said they'll do any alterations to ensure the units comply with the standards. But it's pain in tthe !!!! so they'll send a plumber over one day, then electrician and then plumber again and then carpenter etc. The whole process can take weeks.

    Sound advice.

But it is always possible to remove the depth of plaster, around the 15mm required for a gas hob feed, and clip the pipe back thus using no space.
If the OP has an overlap it should be quite easily fixed.

  • i think the gas pipe routing should be easily done, the gas engineer can buil a square C with pipe and then weld in the top and butom into the existing pipework and it should be a quick job without needing to break the wall or fidgit with any of the plaster.

I doubt it, given the width of the oven is only 5mm less than the gap in the units and the depth is full, he won't be able to bridge outside the waste pipe.

Personally I'd have run the gas pipe up the back of the adjacent unit and across into the void that is left at the top rear of the cooker for over hob connections.

the max 55cm depth isn't always the entire part of the rear of the oven - at least in mine it's about 2cm from the sides, 5cm from the bottom and 15cm from the top. So pipework can be routed around the bulgy 55cm part without having to rip out the units to fix - knowing these builders I think they'll just do that than rip out units.

Only the OP can clear that 1 up, I'm working on the fact that what you are suggesting is the obvious solution but given he's had to ask I'm assuming there isn't enough space, OP?

    lol. I am the OP.

I didn't take a look at the rear of the oven at the time of posting (I actually bought 3 and returned 2 ovens as I had cold feet twice) - one being gas an difficut to get even heat and 2nd being electric non fan where I needed fan.

The kitech fitter has proposed to reroute the pipes around - I hope it works, they might be able to give me the full 55cm if not it might be 54 or 54.5 and I will have to accept a bit of bulging out.
