Tenth Anniversary Combo Breaker
Hi

I'm currently on the swalec disc bonus which expired 01 Oct when they will switch me to the standard plan. There is a £50 early release charge. Question is if I find a new supplier now will they work on the changeover from the 1st Oct or will I have to wait till the 1st Oct before finding a new supplier.

Thanks Lee

Under OFGEM rules, your supplier should have written to you 49 to 42 days before the end of your current tariff. You are then free to start the switching process. You will not be charged an exit fee and your supplier must keep you on your present tariff until the switch goes through. A couple of things to bear in mind. One, your new supplier is responsible for the switching process and it will request meter reads. Make a note of these. Two, do not cancel any DDs until you have had your final bills.

You won't be switched in less than 3 weeks, so you can commence now. Your contract ends when you switch, not when you apply to switch.

    Thanks Hengus

Yes, they have sent me a letter telling me my contract will be ending soon so I'll start the process.

(But their systems do not always recognise this - do not panic if you are charged and do check whether you were charged once everything is processed. You may have to ask for a manual refund - but allow the transfer to complete and go through before sorting any anomaly.)
