Car insurance for learner driver's - Twins

Options
Hi all,

Yes that's time has come for me to buy a car (mine is automatic) for my twin daughters to earn to drive in, and one day drive in.

Can anybody advise me on the best way to insure my daughters on the same car as learners? I'm presuming that me and wife will also need to be named drivers???

Any advise or tips would be greatly appreciated,

Thanks, Paul.

You've two options really, buy a policy and have them covered by it. The policyholder should be the main driver, if both the girls will be driving equally then its an arbitrary choice for now though may become an issue if one passes before the other etc.

You dont need to be named drivers but it would be sensible to be as it will normally lower the premiums, assuming you have good driving/ claims history.

Sometimes it lowers the premium having older named drivers on the policy. But as a learner it maybe cheaper to just have them on it.

When my daughter started to learn to drive i could get a Ford KA insured for £400. Car and policy in her name alone no additional drivers.
But once they passed their test that policy would end.

Insurance after passing was closer to £2000.

After she passed i got quotes of £1300 but she didnt need a car at the time and now 6 months later its gone upto £1900+

I put my OH on my insurance and my quote fell from £1300 to £800. This was when I passed and was upgrading my provisional insurance which was £700, so I only had to pay an extra £100. If it makes it cheaper, do it but make sure you do it legally (I'm the policy holder, OH secondary driver)
