Claiming for damaged ceiling

I have a ceiling coming down due to old water damage from extension
which was built some years ago and not properly protected. Can I put a claim in so long after the event? Looks like the whole ceiling may need to be redone as it would be quite a large patch. If I could claim does it make a huge difference to premiums?
TIA

If its old damage or ongoing damage then it may not be covered, They could say it was a maintenance issue
You say not protected properly, Is that when the extension was being built or afterwards? Possibly down to the builders insurance?
Have you changed insurer since the damage?Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
Do you have Accidental Damage Cover?0

The damage happened when it was being built, not sufficient protection when it rained. I don't believe I've changed insurance company in that time, will have to dig out the policy for accidental damage cover, but think we have the usual buildings and contents.
It looks pretty obvious water damage as other people always think the bathroom is above, which it isn't. nothing was said at the time which was something I thought should have happened but didn't really have a voice in the matter.0 -
You might be pleasantly surprised at how little it costs to fix a ceiling-and shocked at the additional premium following a claim-have you had any quotes? Mine came in at a tenner over the excess...import this0

I'd get my own quote first to see what the costs are going to be before notifying your insurers.
From what you say its defective workmanship which isnt covered by the policy but once you inform them of the incident you have to declare it for the next 3-5 years (depending on insurers)0 -
Thanks, well over 5yrs ago, so too late anyway, will hunt down the best price as I think it will come down any day.0
