How to claim PPI

I know there are lots of questions and answers about this but I'm still confused. I have a credit card that I have used for about 20 years or more, I had a mortgage that I took out 27 years ago and paid that off approximately 14 years ago. I have no idea if I was sold PPI when I took either out, as I haven't kept the paperwork. Would I still be able to make a claim and if yes, how would I go about it as the letters I have seen all ask for account numbers. I'm also wondering if I am too late to apply for anything. Please help

  • In a nut shell if you were mis-sold PPI then you can put in a complaint and if you can prove you were mis-sold then then bank will pay out.

If you don't have any paperwork then you can ring the bank and ask what records they hold but because of the time that has elapsed you are better off sending an SAR which will cost you £10 per bank.

Banks only keep documents for about 6-7 years and don't have to keep them any longer so they may have no records, or none of any use. But they might.

If you find evidence of PPI - it would be clearly marked on your credit card statements and would have usually have appeared as a direct debit for your mortgage - then you will need a concrete reason why you were mis-sold. Having PPI is not a problem, how it was sold and whether you were eligible for the policy in the first place is what any complaint is based on. As you can't remember whether you had it let alone how you might have been sold it then proving it was mis-sold would be tricky - but stranger things have happened. If your credit card is still active that would be an excellent place to start.

1 - are you paying PPI?
2 - what would be your reasons for complaint?

Dont you get a monthly statement on your credit card?
