Poor credit history

I've got a really poor credit history, multiple defaults and one CCJ (5 years old).

I want to open a current account up but i don't think my chances are great still, i have a regular income of over 1800 a month now since i have become employed.

Is there an option for me or do i continue to plod along with basic accounts?

whats wrong with a basic current account.

They offer basic banking facilities that you need, direct debt, standing order, FP, debt card.

I fail to see what having an account with a fancy name will do. Or do you want an account with an overdraft if so you have ZERO chance lol.

Further to the above, which bank do you have a basic account with? Most have all of the facilities you'd get with a full account.

There is sometimes a middle ground between a basic account and a full current account.

I have a couple of 5 yr old defaults (now settled) and I am 'usually' accepted for current accounts however the debit card they issue is often online (checks the balance for approval). Also no overdraft etc.

I've never had a CCJ so I guess that will have a further negative effect but it may be possible to get a current account (albeit not a full/un-restricted one).
