Need a free eye test

Is there anywhere I can get a free eye test?

I haven't gotten one since before I moved to the UK 2 years ago, but I don't want to pay a silly amount like D&A charge. I always had them at the doctor's office.

What kind of work do you do choc chip? If you work on a PC all day, you are entitled to one through work.

Other than that, you would need to be on benefits or have a 'complex prescription'. If you are over + or - 10 you qualfy (I do unfortunately and have done since they brought the charge in, I'm blind as a bat - hurrah for contacts!!!!)

    This might help you:

I work in a shop (Gap). I don't get paid a lot, but my husband will make too much for me to get free eye tests. I think £27 is a rip off. Ugh.

Look out for discounts/leaflets through the door? Where I live Specsavers runs an ad in the local paper each week for eye tests for £10 with the coupon (ok so it's not free but better than £27!).

have you got a Sainsbury Nectar card? if so, check the vouchers they send with the statement. I just got one for a free eye test at D&A + 100 bonus points and 2,000 points if you buy glasses from them.

The eye examination is more than a product which you can shop around for the best price. Instead of trying to get the best deal - perhaps you should think in terms of what is best for your eyesight - the old adage:

you get what you pay for

applies to a lot of things - including Optometry.

Having to use qualified professional staff, nice premises and good equipment to detect eye disease and potentially save your eyesight, means the actual cost of an eye exam is far more than the prices quoted above.

Out of interest, which would people prefer? -

Pay a correct fee for the eye exam and less for glasses/contact lenses

    or:

Pay less for the eye exam and subsidise it with a higher cost of glasses/contact lenses.

You cannot have it both ways, otherwise there would be no-one to test your eyes, correct your vision and pick up eye disease.

I suspect that that is something that Martin Lewis :money:, the Daily Mail and others have failed to consider!

My local specsavers was offering walk in appointments today for £7.50.
I didn't look if there was any small print but I paid £15 last month! That's why I noticed it, just though I was ripped off.
Debt at highest May 04 - £65,639.22 - Started DMP with CCCS 1st June 04 & now self managed DMP
Debt now 20th December 2015 £31677.13 Paid Off to date £33962.09 - just not going quickly enough!

Debt free date July 2024! I don't think so, it'll be going quicker than that!!!
