Calling soap makers

I want to make some cold process soap, can anyone recommend a simple recipe to start with, ideally using the least amount of ingredients to keep the initial cost low, just in case I don't get on with it.
I have most of the equipment I have been gathering up from charity shops as I see suitable items. Just need a thermoter if anyone could recommend a good value starter one?
One last question I have a young child and will be making this when he is out of the house. How long does it take before the soap is 'safe' to touch. I don't want him coming home and sticking his fingers on the mould/curing soap before the lye is safe
Thanks

Hi
I've made some a couple of times but can't remember where I found the recipe. I know it contained caustic soda, coconut oil, olive oil, water and essential oils. I'll have a look.
I waited for at least 8 weeks before I touched mine with bare hands just as precaution, but I'm not sure if it's ok to just generally handle before then.
I'd recommend mixing the water and caustic soda outside and it might be a good idea to wear goggles as it is very potent and not nice to inhale.
It is so exciting though and I get really impatient.0 -
I've had a quick look but can't remember the recipe I used but if you go onto Google or Youtube and type in basic cold process soap making method/recipe lots come up.
I will say if you choose a recipe that uses Palm Oil try to find an ethically sustainable one as the production of it is very damaging to the environment. It might cost a fraction more but is worth it0
