You have probably misunderstood, there is generally no problem with applying for, and running, many current accounts. It just seems to be advisable not to apply for too many current accounts if you are planning to apply for a mortgage in the next 6 or so months.0

Because you could be seen to be somewhat desperate for unsecured credit - not a good state to be in if you want a mortgage.0

if i go in to the bank and applie for a 2nd account and get declined could they take the account ive got now of me0

most unlikely, unless you have a dreadful credit history and/or become abusive to their staff. Though they might try to sell you some stuff that you don't want, be prepared for that.
I still don't understand why you don't go to another bank for a second account, especially after you have already been declined an application at Nationwide.0 -
Ok thanks you have been really helpful. For some reason i like all my eggs in one basket (nationwide) then open different products under the same roof. What stuff might they try and sell me?0

Some customers do moan for that exact reason.DEBT FREE!

There are two main reasons why many users on this forum generally recommend not having all your dealings in one bank.
Firstly if your relationship with that bank hits the rocks for some reason (not necessarily of your making) there's another account ready to use.
Secondly if your main bank has technical problems you still have access to the banking system..0 -
Banks allow or reject unauthorised overdrafts according to how much money they can make out of you in charges. If they can charge more by allowing the overdraft then that is what they will do. You, the customer, have no control over the decision except by not going overdrawn.
