You list two different error messages in separate posts, did you see both messages, or just one, and if the latter, which one was it? Either way, the ATM itself will have logged the message on its till roll, and the operator's software should have recorded the reason for the error (Santander themselves may not have enough data logged to know what happened). As meer says, you need to formally dispute this with Santander - Cashzone won't speak to you about it because that's not the process for resolving ATM issues.

If a error message come on then that would be logged and the owner of the atm would be able to fine it.

It will be logged but how do you expect the owner of the ATM to trace the owner of the card ?

They don't do this. The OP's bank deal with it. They have and they've said they don't have any evidence that the machine was £200 down that day.
  • A couple of things spring to mind - if this only happened last Thursday the ATM has been balanced, bank 1 has spoken to bank 2 already and sent a letter to the customer?

    A bit too quick IMO.
  • Could the money have not just came out late? I once was behind someone at a cash point. They assumed from the sounds they were making that their money didn't come out or failed (maybe assumed not enough funds). I went forwards after they left to put my card in and £10 was in the slot where cash comes out. I informed the person and they thanked me and took the money. could something have similar happened to the op? But the op not have been so lucky?
  • Most ATM's - the card only comes back AFTER it has dispensed the cash.
So if card has been returned but no money has come out the machine has a problem. Most of the time the transaction is cancelled and monies returned to accounts - sometimes it wont and you need to contact the bank to sort it out.

Not the ones I use, the card always comes back first. I can't remember ever having used an ATM where the cash is dispensed before the card comes back.

Really? I've never had the card come out first.

Well you must be seeking out the very few (if any) ATMs that work that way, the overwhelming majority will require the card to be removed before cash is dispensed. Certainly every UK bank does that, if there are any ATMs that dispense cash first I would guess they belong to organisations that are not banks.
