Tyre deals - watch out for Kwik Fit again!

I run several cars and wouldn't usually bother with Kwik Fit from experience but 25% off Pirelli sounded as if it was worth a look. Their web prices differ from the outlet prices (no surprise) but neither are actually offering a real saving of 25% on Pirelli tyres. I've been quoted £127 each for some 205 50 R17s which is very much the going rate. Kwik Fit state this is the discounted price but all they've done is inflated (excuse the pun) the price for the required number of weeks so they can call it a discount price. This will be little surprise to most but thought I'd post it anyway for those shopping for tyres at the moment.

you have to be very careful where you buy your tyres and what you pay for them

a couple of years ago i was on the M1 near Luton when i picked up a puncture, i didn't want to drive all weekend on a space-saver so hunted out a tyre place which was a small national chain

my car was fitted with bridgestone turanza er30 which had been replaced by bridgestone turanza er300 so i asked for a price for two which came to over £300.00 which was ridiculous so i had one fitted and went on my way £150.00 lighter

when i got home i went to my local independent and had a second bridgestone turanza er300 fitted for £82.00

the moral to this is that i will never spend another penny in the small national chain as long as i live, if in the same situation again i would drive past them and look for somewhere else to spend my money, I was stuck and had to pay at the time but you only ever catch me once
  • National tyres are the same, they have big adverts about how they have a 'special' deal on tyres but when you check the offer price is quite often more than other 'normal' prices.

Moral is always check before buying........
