This is an important point. It is entirely possible that the Scottish people could change their mind but that is unlikely to happen any time soon, so it is important that, unless circumstances change in some remarkable way, that the decision be accepted and honoured by both parties for the forseeeable future.
The SNP should focus on building their base at Westminster now; they should also adopt a new role of maximising or optimising the powers of the parliament to suit the requirements of the Scottish people, short of independence. There are many ways of doing that and they should harness the vision and most of all the energy of their supporters in these tasks before it becomes dissipated.
But trying to get full statehood with a seat at the UN should be off the agenda for many years, maybe decades. There is no honour to be had in not knowing a thing that can be known - Danny Baker0 -
To be fair, that's representative democracy in action.
Neither Scotland nor England has had direct democracy in the way the Swiss and US-ians do.
If we accept that the British Parliament can withdraw from the EU, why can't the Scottish Parliament withdraw from the UK? (Apart from the fact that constitutional powers aren't devolved of course).
I don't think they'd be around very long to see it through. Referendums are one thing, sedition is another.
At least the threat of it should put a lot of people off voting for them again. As far as I can see the sensible people are just getting on with their lives, the remainder of the Yes campaign seem to be semi literate cretins without anything else to occupy themselves.0 -

Is it a damp squib?
Government powers are in process of being of being devolved, which may have been unlikely without the engagement in the referendum and the large vote away from UK parliament.
Sure, the Union prevailed and we need to accept that decision, similarly, the UK needs to acknowledge that change needs to happen.:wall:
What we've got here is....... failure to communicate.

On the back of the referendum, SNP members have increased.
I wouldn't back any money on them disappearing:wall:
