I've found some .vob files for a movie I ripped ages ago, and it's been years since I've done anything of this nature, so I've forgotten... How do I make the vob files into an avi or mp4 file I can watch?
There must be a freeware application to do it that's simple, or not too hard, to use.

Have you tried Googling for the answer ? !!!
You do not state your operating system that would help.
Assuming windows.....
Have you tried opening with windows media player or VLC ?, both are capable of playing these.0 -
Ashampoo free version will burn vob to dvd. Or Any Video Converter free may be able to convert.0

Or this free giveaway may do the job http://www.giveawayoftheday.com/ but it's only for today.0

That is a great software that can do it, but it's not free, still a reasonable price though.
If you don't want to pay, which would be understandable, go for this:

It's not as good in many ways but it is free so you can't argue.
Alternatively if neither of these options work. Google "top ten video converters" and click the one for the toptenreviews site, they are trustworthy and will have , surprisingly enough, 10 to choose from.0 -
Staxrip will do it
http://staxmedia.sourceforge.net/
Though most media players should cope easily with vob files anyway.0 -
Thanks for the suggestions/links. I'll try one or two of them out.0

VLC is a good media player that can run on both Mac and Win. It can play all these formats. Another one is Macgo Mac Blu-ray Player. It has the same feature as VLC to play common media. What's more, it support Blu-ray.0

There's a free version here.0 -
I decided to leave the vob's alone in the end, I hadn't known that VLC can play the folder/files like a dvd by right-clicking (I know - noob). That and I was getting tired of installing/uninstalling programmes that didn't work for me, not good for me or my computer.0
