Last Minute Italy Trip - Rome/Sorrento

Hi All,

I was just looking for any advice people might have on booking a Last Minute 7-10 day trip to Italy leaving this coming Wednesday 11th.

We're basically looking to spend around 4-5 days in Rome and then head down to Sorrento for a few days. Possibly a couple of days in Capri if we can afford it. Am obviously looking to see all the main sights and tourist attractions.

I've looked on a few tour websites such as Archers Direct and Travel Sphere but there doesn't seem to be too much in the way of pre-arranged tours whereby the flights and hotels are all arranged so am looking to do that all myself and wondered if anybody might have some advice on the best way of doing that or if there might be any other tour operators that may have some last minute trips.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Probably best to do it yourself at this stage. I prefer Amalfi and Positano to Sorrento. There are trains to Salerno from Rome and great ferries to Amalfi and Positano from Salerno. There are ferries from Positano to Capri.

Would you fly home from Naples or Rome?

It's very easy to get around Italy by train once you're there.

I would be looking at flying into Rome, spending your days there, train down to Naples, then use Sorrento as a base, purely because it's easier to see Pompeii and/or Ercolano and visit Capri, Amalfi, Positano, Ravello from there, but if you stay along the Amalfi coast you have to get a bus back to Sorrento before you can get anywhere else along the Napolitan coast.

But I guess it depends on what kind of holiday you want, if you just want to get to a destination town and stay there and chill then yes, the Amalfi coast would be better than Sorrento.

You won't need a few days in Capri, there's nothing there, it doesn't really warrant more than a day trip to see the grotto and have a bit of a mooch.

Yes as above Sorrento is an excellent base for seeing the area, easy to get public transport, eg the train to Pompeii, Herculanuem, Vesuvious, Naples, the bus or ferry to Amalfi/Positano, ferry to Naples/Capri. Loads of hotels in Sorrento, look on booking.com or the like.

You're probably best flying into Rome and out of Naples or vv, and getting the train between. There's a coach service direct from Naples airport to Sorrento.

Have a search here for Sorrento, been discussed a lot.

What's the best way to get from NAP airport to Sorrento? I didn't like the train.

I've only used the train (quite an experience) except for once we had a driver that came with the villa we rented.

Definitely agree with don't waste money staying on Capri a day trip is plenty. I preferred wandering around Anacapri than Capri town itself.

We got about perfectly well with public transport, particularly enjoyed taking a bus along the Amalfi coast and then returning by boat from Positano.

Also do walk down to Marina Piccolo in Sorrento. Lovely fish restaurant and pretty church. In fact lots of the churches are quite non descript outside but spectacular inside.

    Have a great holiday.

There's a direct bus. You don't need to go into Naples to get the train. http://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Travel-g187782-c86238/Sorrento:Italy:Bus.To.From.Naples.Airport.html
