Form TC607

Under what circumstances is a form TC 607 sent out?

Friend is having a nightmare with her tax credits.

She got 2 award letters the same day last week with 2 different award figures on them. Tried all day yesterday to get through on the phone and finally did about 6pm.

The person she spoke to checked it all out for her and verified one of the amounts she'd been sent. Today she got ANOTHER letter - a TC607 - saying they will stop paying tax credits because she did not send her tax credits declaration form they sent her in May. She's religiously filled in absolutely everything they have sent her so no idea what that is about.

She had an overpayment from four years ago which she's repaying at £30 a month and the back of this form says she has been overpaid £956 and will have to repay this and that nothing has so far been repaid.

This letter is dated 18 August and she spoke to the advisor yesterday saying everything is fine with her tax credits.

Do any of you good people have any idea what might be going on? She has tried most of today to get through on the phone without success.

When she called they just checked on their screen and said everything was fine and confirmed which of the two letters they had sent her was the correct one. She told them she has had to drop 2 hours a week and they noted that and said she'd lose the 30hr element and they'd send out a revised award letter.

She's had no other letter that she hasn't completed. When she called she knew nothing of this letter that was to arrive the next day but the adviser checked out her account and said everything was fine.

If they have stopped her tax credits in error, will it be a massive hassle to get them reinstated?

Thanks again blondebubbles. She will phone first thing in the morning and will keep trying all day till she gets through.

trouble is, she's getting put on hold for ages then getting a message saying please try later...again and again.

Obviously though it's vitally important to speak to an adviser as something's gone wrong somewhere. Although I would have thought the adviser on Friday would have seen something wrong when she checked all the details and said everything was fine.
