macmillan grant

I have been awarded a macmillan grant got cheque yesterday it says if I take passport and utility bill to Nat west or royal bank of Scotland they will give me the cash. I don't have either bank nearby so went to my own bank lloyds and asked if they would cash it straight away seeing I have been customer for over 20 years they said no and that neither would the other 2 banks as cheque is crossed payee only. Is this correct

Seems like they have some sort of agreement with RBS as usually it has to be paid into an account in your name.
Why wouldnt your LLoyds bank let you pay it in? Or did you just not want to wait until it clears?0 -
I really could do with the cash but will have to wait x0
