US bank account

I have a US bank account with Bank of America. I opened it in the USA using my UK passport and UK driving licence as id. I do have a US address that they used to mail our debit cards and check books to. But the account is an e-banking account so I can get all my statements and stuff online.
Very easy to open and very easy (and free) to operate. Sound like it would suit you too.0 -
I agree that checking with banks in the area of the US makes sense...but not all offer free accounts. I had a free account (US Bank) for years when I lived in the US and I kept it open when I moved here...about 2 years ago I received a notice that the account would incur a monthly fee unless I had at least $X amount in it...I was OK with this and made sure I deposited enough to bring the balance slightly over that amount but we do go to the US regularly and it is worth it to me to keep that account active.
There are fee-free ATMs in the US, but agree that many do charge. If you look around you can usually find some that don't have a fee...but if you have an account with a particular bank you can generally use any of their locations without charge.Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?0 -

Has your company sorted you out with health insurance?
No longer, sad to say. It was good for a long time, but last time I checked there was a fee of about three pounds for each withdrawal. However, the exchange rate is decent so you could do worse, but you can certainly do better.0
