Spanish Hospital Bill

Hi there, is there any way I can delay paying a Spanish hospital bill which my insurance company has denied? I have appealed but this can take up to 8 wks and the hospital wants their money within 10 days
Cheers

Well they can ask for payment within this time, but if you don't have the money, all you can do is offer repayment over a period. The UK foreign & commonwealth office do get involved in helping people agree repayment plans with foreign hospitals, but they will tell you to offer a repayment plan first.

Suggest that you make an initial payment of what you can afford and in a letter with the payment, detail what future payments you intend to make. Advise them that you are in dispute with the Travel Insurers and don't have the income/savings to pay the hospital bill, other than over a period of time.

The hospital should accept your plan, without any penalities being applied.

If you have a problem with any organisation, enter into their official complaints process at the earliest opportunity, as sometimes complaints have to be started within a certain time frame.

No he isn't, you posted the same thing yesterday and got a lot of replies.????
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.
  • McKneff, If you take the time to read the replies I got, which I am grateful for,you will find that at the time, Huckster was in fact the only one who replied regarding the hospital bill. Zaax, I was taken by ambulance to a hospital which I only found out on arrival was private, so although I had my EHIC card, it is not accepted in any private hospitals.

My son has recently moved to Spain to teach English, but I am finding it difficult to find insurance for him ie not on holiday, not in a gap year, he does have his health card but getting a bit worried after reading this!

It is quite straightforward. He registers himself as living and working in Spain with the local authorities there. He then can access local health services and be treated like a local. It does mean getting various forms to complete and providing evidence of identity, residence, employment etc.

If he wants private healthcare cover, he can arrange this in Spain through an Insurers there. Or Google private healthcare Spain.

He is not on a gap year or travelling as such, so a Travel Insurance is not really relevant.
