DVLA not recognising my Government Gateway Account

I need to renew my driving licence and thought I would do this online (I renewed my passport recently and it says you can do it online if there is a current photo of you from renewing your passport. As there is, I thought I would try the online route.)

I have now typed in my Government Gateway Account code and password twice in the the DVLA website and had them rejected twice. Once more and I am threatened it will be locked.

So I logged into my Inland Revenue account, USING THE SAME DETAILS, and it went through at once.

Anyone else encountered this problem?

  • I have now run into the problem of NOT being allowed to log into my HMRC account because I do not have a photo driving licence or a passport to prove my identity.

The national identity card has arrived by the back door.-but you know all this is for your own good with all these terrorists about ????!
  • I have a gateway account, which works fine with HMRC.

But didn't with DWP, certain characters were ignored....

Out of curiosity I typed the password in upper case which worked.

Weird it needs lower case for HMRC and upper for DWP.

    try that?
  • I have managed to get into HMRC via this link,
    https://online.hmrc.gov.uk
but it is looking like I will be forced to buy a photo driving licence to avoid becoming a "non citizen".
