This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine

Morning all,

Morning all,

Millie dog got me up an hour ago and ive not been able to go back to sleep since so ive given up trying.

'Youngest' didn't come home last night. He went out at 6pm clutching a pack of lagers. I think he's gone to a party. His ex has come a couple of hundred miles to sort things out with him. They had an argument some time back. I guess i'll see the two of them later.

Got lots of laundry to peg out this morning. House is pretty clean and tidy though.

Onwards and forwards,

have a great day all.

Morning All

RR - Glad you had a good day with DD yesterday. Love the smell of bleach, just going to do the bathroom.

Washing out already with all the bedding, I think I will run out of room on the line but it should dry fairly quickly so I can put more out later. It's to be a decent day here so will wash everything not nailed down!

Couldn't be bothered to cook last night so we had cheese and crackers - actually really enjoyed it. Had some of the onion marmalade DD made too. Spag bol tonight.

Need to go and buy paint - thanks for the reminder (can't remember who it was, sorry), I will be doing the mist coat first! Picked up a couple of samples of flooring yesterday and have chosen one so will take the samples back and put in an order. Love local suppliers as they let you take things to see if they will look ok.

Not sure what else will be happening, DD is at work so have a day of pottering by myself.

Hope you all have a good weekend, take care. XX

Morning everyone. Just a wonderful morning here, the sea loch is calm and the sun is bright. Still have some swallows around but probably not for much longer.

I had a lovely peaceful time yesterday, I could easily get used to this. Even fell asleep on the sofa for about an hour. Woke just before a friend called by.

Friday night is takeaway night! When I went to bed the moon was so beautiful, it was a full moon and it seemed to be right outside the bedroom. Haven't seen such a huge one for ages.

I will not be going shopping today. went up to Oban yesterday to get three lampshades and went to the supermarket instead...got no discipline at all though I bought mostly household things rather than food.

I hope everyone is well or on the mend. For those who are just about holding on I send best wishes.

Happy Saturday. (Dr Who day:j )
• Good Morning everyone, grey and cloudy here but still too warm for real comfort particularly overnight.

On my own again this weekend as DD needs a few things done that she can't do without dads help so I'm going to do a top to bottom tidy and dust of the house and wash all the floors. I find this time of year brings so much dust into the house because we are constantly in and out of the back door into the garden and harvesting and preparing crops which means the floors suffer greatly. Things should return to normal routine next week though as I think this is the last weekend DH has to be away for a while. I'll be glad when the weather cools a little though and lets me get a decent nights sleep and I love those first few frosty mornings of autumn and watching the trees gradually change colour and shed thier leaves, then it's the first lighting of the woodstove in the fullness of time which turns the corner of the season. Love coming home from walking the dog knowing there's a cup of tea waiting and smelling the woodsmoke from the chimney as I get close to the house, lovely!

Have yourselves a really good day all, Lyn xxx.
• Morning all,

WM is on and although I am showered I have yet to dress. Taking DS2 to work in an hour and then the Aldi shop. How predictable we are!

I think DH is going to put the new exhaust on his car later, at least I hope so because he was telling me last night it is a bit smelly. Can't be efficient either.

DD texted last night and is coming down for the day next Saturday so she can try her Wedding dress on. Looking forward to that :)

Hope you all have an enjoyable day whatever you do :) x

Morning :hello:

There's a hornet in the garden, he's been buzzing around for three days now. The chickens usually catch bugs, flies, etc. and eat them but they run after the hornet then quickly back away - they're not stupid :D I don't want to kill it in case his mates are nearby and they attack, but if I leave it and it stings one of the girls, it will kill her. Not sure what to do? I'm hoping it's a lonely one that's dying. Am I overthinking this? :rotfl:

My bathroom ceiling is a PITA. We used to have those old polystyrene tiles, we took them down and had the ceiling skimmed. It stayed like that for ages, when we painted we started getting mould spots. Never had a problem before so I don't know what's different now? Every six months-ish I have to use strong mould killer. Today's the day :D I hate using it, I leave the windows open wide but it still feels and tastes like I've drunk the stuff straight from the bottle.

I'm going to attempt The Big Introduction later :D Rather than put the newbies in with the oldies, I'm going to open the gate and let the oldies out onto the garden, where the newbies have been roaming around. That way they won't feel like their space has been invaded. Hopefully Millie Chick won't bully them, she's been letting everyone know about her disgust and disapproval for days :D Mr tru will be home from work at about 5pm, I'll wait til then – if there's any fighting, I won't be able to separate more than two chickens by myself. Should be fun :D

Overcast here, but not cold. Hubby & I are on our 2nd cuppa, I'll do breakfast in a sec & then put the WM on.

We have visitors this evening for hubby's birthday, after the last debacle we are having a takeaway, everyone is ordering what they want & paying for it themselves, hubby says that I'm not to spend all day in the kitchen just for folk to turn their nose up at all my hard work!

I must say I'm relieved, I was hot & shaky when I got in from work so I came in & had a rest, then I did some housework & preserving, then collected hubby & by the time I got home I was shaking again so went to bed.

Problem is, this time of year, everything is ready in the garden & hedgerows, so there is lots of work to do in the kitchen.

Hey ho, enough of my moaning, worse things happen at sea.

Have a good day everyone.

Hugs Hester
Chin up, Titus out.

Bit murky down here at present.

Just done some stretching exercises, as have been going to yoga, and want to practice some of the moves, now relaxing on here whilst having coffee here whilst WM does it stuff.

Not much planned, out to dinner tonight,I'm doing fresh fruit salad to take so can prep that later.

Hope the weather brightens up a bit so we can have a good walk along the seafront later on.

DH on bike ride then he will be pottering, he has taken up making jewellery from silver cutlery, some of it is really rather nice!

Happy weekend all and best wishes to all who needs them.

Morning everyone

Birthday wishes to those celebrating a birthday, hope you have a great day x

Hugs and get well wishes to those that want/need them.

Now light, dull and very overcast here.

DH up and gone to work early but not stupid early.

Dinner last night was chicken and ham kievs, chips, beans and salad for the menfolk. I had LO cold salmon, jacket potato and veg, last of DH’s birthday cake was dessert. Later today we’re going to mum’s as it’s her birthday today, so we’re eating there, my bro and SIL are coming down so will be good to catch up with them.

Sat yesterday afternoon and did a menu plan for the next week, tomorrow we’ll be having either pork chops or haggis – haggis is looking most likely at the moment. I’ll do mash, veg and Yorkshires with it and a jug of gravy for those that want it. I’ve been reading loads of OS tips on here and how little people are able to spend by using up everything, and making meals with a very tight budget, and saving money to either be mortgage free much quicker or get rid of debt. Really want to have a go but am so restricted because of my foot at the moment, I’d forgotten how much I like pottering in the kitchen and now I can’t it’s a bit frustrating, but hopefully I’ll be mended when I go back to hospital and back on my feet, but that is several weeks away yet. I’m looking around my house and can see it getting messier as each day goes by, menfolk are helping with the general cleaning, but it’s not done how I like it to be done, they are running the hoover and duster over and boys are helping me loads with prepping of meals etc, just finding the whole thing difficult. I know I should be grateful as I know loads of people are in much worse situations so trying to stay positive.

Have a good Saturday everyone x

Take care x

Keep safe and well x

Good morning
A fine day ahead. the days are the last few out of summer.
Soon to give way for the cooler, damp winter.
Yesterday I put a cotton dress on and little cardigan trying to make the most of it.

Most of the veg in the garden has now been picked.I found a few beans still on the climbing plants. Few orange colored peppers and green tomatoes in the greenhouse.

It is harvest time. Time to think of the short cold days of winter.
I have bought some new jumpers this year.
We have wood for the fire.
A store cupboard with lots of baking things for home cooking.

Well! today is a brand new day and we have no plans.
OK! Cottage pie and fresh veg for dinner. Thats forward planneng.

Have a thrifty Saturday every one.

3.45pm now. i decided to have a walk around our small town. Needed a few things and a parcel to collect from the post office.
The small parcel, i should have has on Thursday! only, the silly post man decided to post a not in card - my name and address to a diffrent house on our street. They came and gave me my post thankfully. It is a item to trial.

Looked around a CS. Bought x 5 woodland surprises porcelain, hand painted animals.
i thought they would look cute in with the plants in our conservatory.

Bought some things for a birthday next week. I am baking a pink cake for the lady.
The secret to success is making very small, yet constant changes.:)
