Impossible to Switch from Opus Energy to another supplier

Hi
We've recently moved house and are now trapped in a Kafkaesque nightmare of trying to switch suppliers, getting so far and then being told that they cannot proceed with the switch.
Our house is a rented detached three bed house but the previous tenants apparently used it as a commercial property and had their energy supplied by Opus who only supply businesses.
We have had a letter from Opus who have told us that they can no longer supply us. To complicate matters further the house has two electricity meters and two MPAN numbers.
So far, I have tried to switch to three suppliers (Npower, British Gas and extraenergy) and each time, their business and/or sales team say it is impossible to proceed for various reasons; all a combination of the above. opus have confirmed that they have registered us as domestic customers and can release us, but the other suppliers are not interested- I guessing because it's too much hassle for them.
Our new landlord has so far failed to get back to us re: this.
What should we do?
Has anyone else experienced this?
All comments gratefully received.
