You may want to consider applying to the scottish welfare fund if you are struggling financially and need help with removal expenses or white goods, furniture etc...to help you live independently

Forums can be/are a good guide to entitlement and it is good practice to back it up with clarification from the relevant department/specialist with written confirmation to safeguard yourself.

Don't buy a wheelchair, you are entitled to a wheelchair assessment via the nhs to get a suitable wheelchair and cushion, wheelchairs are as individual as shoes and need to be fitted for you while taking your daily needs into consideration.

Just a bit of an update. I signed the tenancy agreement and got the keys yesterday. The hpusing association are dealing with the housing benefit paperwork on my behalf and it's being processed as a change of circumstances rather than a new application. Called this morning and got the address changed for my disability benefits. Also saw my doctor and he is sending the paperwork away to refer me for a wheelchair, and OT will be visiting soon to assess the bathroom for adding rails for the shower.

The only downside is the problems associated with a new build. The building is cabled for phones, but BT still need to do their thing in the street to add it to an exchange, so until that happens no internet. Also the postcode/address hasn't filtered through all the lookup databases yet, so waiting for my insurance company to get back to me to transfer the policy when they can process the address; and my chosen energy supplier can't find it either yet (or the meter serials), but I took meter readings as soon as I got the keys so it will work out eventually.

I applied for the welfare fund for carpets and removal costs - not hopeful, but nothing ventured and all that.

Still feel stressed beyond belief, but I have plenty of valium to see me through.

Thanks again for the advise earlier.

  • Congratulations! Sounds like you have a whole lot going on right now, and aren't being helped by the postcode database! But otherwise I'm very pleased to hear you've moved into somewhere more suitable for your needs! Good luck with your new life!
