My Graduate (Post-Student) Debt Diary!

>12 MonthsI think I made a bit of a hasty purchase on the £100 odd vacuum. Considering I only have a bedroom I really have to clean myself. So I'm going to list that back on eBay.. I've popped a reserve on it to get my money back, and offered postage so hopefully more likely to get greater interest.
I never got up at 5am for the iPhones.. I got there and the queues were mental, I lasted about an hour before I felt too sick and had to go back home to bed. I have been ill off work for past 2 days, hopefully will be OK by monday, the damn London tubes have made me ill they're so hot and sweaty, full of disease!
Not sure if I mentioned but that big box of phone accessories arrived earlier last week, I've devised a couple eBay listings, 1) A BIN listing allowing people to buy 10 items in a lucky dip for £4.99, and 2) an auction for 10 to gain interest (I will re-list this weekly till I run out).
Remember I paid like £24 for the lot, so I'm likely to get some profit somewhere for the lot. Will see what happens, would take too much time to split everything out and list separate auctions of related items.
I'm bidding on a Brompton folding bicycle as we speak, currently at £600, a big purchase but I really want and need a decent folding bicycle so I can commute to work and not have to waste any more money on the tubes.
What else.. looking around my room for things to sell.. A £600 odd purchase on a bike, despite getting an extra £400 in my wage on this first pay check, is a lot to part with, so feel it necessary to try and make up for it.
So I need to start thinking about increasing the amount I give back to the high interest Barclaycard CC! Now that I have officially had a pay check and am earning! If we take a look at my Budget sheet:
Click on the image to view my live Google Spreadsheet
I created a column for 'Suggested' amounts to pay towards bills/debts each month, so I have an understanding of what I could/should pay towards e.g. my Barclaycard! I'm probably going to begin throwing £100 a month at it, see how that goes.
I'm sure most are realising this is kind of becoming a standard diary for me haha, but I try to keep it centered around finances ^_^'0 -
>12 MonthsChanged my Barclaycard CC to debit £100 from my account monthly. I am finally actually going to make a difference to my credit and debts0

>12 MonthsDidn't win the bidding on that Brompton
but luckily another very similar in new condition ends tomorrow, will have to go up to £700 to stand a chance I think.

>12 MonthsHad a change of heart.. Not going to spend silly money even though I need a bike right now. I think it's going to be a better idea to wait until next payday, try and save as much from this paycheck as possible, if I spend 600 odd now and need the money later I won't be feeling ever so smug, so better to do it this way, and not risk it.
I think this will be a month of thinking very carefully before I make any purchases.. I've nearly gone down a road where I buy things that aren't utterly mandatory or can wait.. Just about pulled myself around from it. Guess this is why people like me end up in debt as I am, not thinking through before making purchases!0 -
That's very sound advice you have given yourself. I wondered how you would afford to eat this month let alone pay down the loans you have outstanding from friends, family and CCs.
BTW, not nit picking but the expression is pay cheque, not paycheck. The latter is an Americanism.0 -

I never knew that! That's actually an interesting bit of information.
And yeah thanks I'd be OK tbh like I could manage, but don't want to risk it before I am certain I have plenty of extra dosh to cover it. Selling things at the moment to try and raise some more funds towards it. :cool:0 -
>12 MonthsSome stuff on eBay as of last night. As well as things on Amazon marketplace. Selling the Dyson hoover I just bought for one! Will only take what I originally paid for it as minimum.
In replacement, I've ordered a much cheaper yet highly rated handheld/stick vacuum off Amazon for £33.
Also selling a professional mic I have, I actually require two for a project and can get two for the price of the one I currently own, so sort of a bit of a trade of one for two of similar quality.
Today arrived a new iron which cost £22.49. Needed one as the house Im in has a crappy broken thing. Also ordered a kind of compact ironing board that I can just fold away into the cupboard.
Still sick off work, without pay.. not much I can do when I feel pretty terrible.
Suppose today can just try and catch up on life admin..0 -

Hope you're feeling better! Being poorly is rubbish, how come it's without pay, is that because of your probationary period?
Well done on all the listing. I have myself a big bunch of stuff waiting for a good start time currently on eBay... worked my butt off typing out all the listings.... Thanks. A bit better today, should be going back tomorrow, not 100% but feel like I'm just moping around now!
We don't get sick pay. I can use up holidays to cover sick days if I wanted, but not sure if I will yet.
Haha, I feel like the scheduled feature is worth the small cost for each listing, always making sure they end on a Sunday between 8-100 -

Glad you're feeling a bit better, that's really poor on the sick pay front!
I just draft all my listings and leave off my photos and then add the photos when I'm ready to list cus then I don't have to pay... >:]This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0
