GAME trade in promise

  • Why not just take them to CEX if there's a store within a mile? Saves you faffing about with Game.

Game's policy is to beat each item by £1 but some stores will try to fob you off with an extra £1 overall (I am an ex employee).

It pays o go to game rather than Cex though as they have a loyalty card which gives you points on everything you buy and trade and their sale prices are lower than Cex so you get more for your trades.

Have to agree, I normally avoid game like the plague (not offence I just find their instore prices too high for games) however I now always trade my games in with them after matching CEX. Built up about £150 on my game gift card (which for now you cant use on pre orders online until the day before) All I do is day before the game I want comes out is order it online as that is almost as cheap as amazon and im done.

Also doesnt show up on my credit card so my mortgage application people dont think im buying games aha

Little tips I have either been given or picked up myself

    1. Trade in games for credit then spend. Doesnt show up.
    2. Go to tesco to buy games. Looks like your spending money on Food.
    3. When you go tesco get cash back widthdraws at the tills everytime for about £50 with each shop. So you never draw out cash at a machine. This just comes up as "tesco" on your bank statement Im told. meaning they think your getting food. you spend it on what you want.

I don't want to go too off topic but I had Sky bet and Game on my bank statements I sent in for my mortgage application, they never battered an eyelid.

Anyway, I feel for GAME slightly as they are fenced in they are only in one market. Asda, Amazon etc all have other markets in which to make profits if they sell games cheaper.

Damn it!! I took the majority of my games back to Game yesterday to trade in, should have checked this first to see if any other stores had better trade in prices. Thanks anyway :)

yes, i traded in most of my ps3 games and i took my list of CEX prices and made an extra £50 on the lists, game were better on some to start with.

£1 extra is on every individual game or peripheral.
  • GAME are a rip off with trade in prices, CEX I've found are usually a better bet

a rip off in your mind, but ultimately I'm inclined to wonder what you would give for games in the same situation? I know from experience that preowned is at best a minefield, the vast majority of "dodgy" stock you can filter out prior to trading it in, but there's always going to be an element of risk. So the trade in price & subsequent margin have to reflect that, after all, there's no way you can guarantee that 100% of preowned stock WILL work.

I see it on Gumtree on a daily basis, foolish people with no idea of the true value of their games - it's frightening just how far off the mark people are at times. There are certain "older" games which command good value, but the vast majority of games older than a year are not worth more than maybe £2-5 at retail.

CEX have high trade in prices because they also sell the stock at high prices, pointed out many times before the stupidity of some of their price structure. I'm not saying Game couldn't do with maybe adjusting their trade in prices, but ultimately they're a business, I'm not expecting them to be looking out for my wallet. Ultimately that's from the position of a long time games retailer, I've seen both sides of the market & know that for the most part, customers have unrealistic expectations!
