just got my final M&S bill before moving away from their Sept 2014 fix, and pleased to see they had reduced the unit charges to account for the energy changes in the budget.

however, on a closer look they had only gone back to mid May when the reduction was in place from 24 March.

they will correct it if you ask them, its not massive, I got £10. But I would rather I had it than them.

You are lucky you got anything on a fixed tariff. Most energy companies didn't pass on the saving to those that chose to fix.

I am with M & S Fix & Save September 2014 tariff too. However I do not know anything about this £50 reduction. Never had anything from M&S/SSE. Could someone please enlighten me?

Also I spoke to them about moving to different supplier as they no longer will be cheaper. However they are asking me to wait until 30/09 before request transfer as otherwise if I request now and transfer takes place before then will charge me £50 penalty for each fuel? I told them it's only 3 weeks away and thought can't charge me within 42 days of end date but they are refusing to accept!

thats all rubbish - you are quite right, there are no fees from 42 days before the end of the fix. Whether they accept or not is irrelevant, just switch. If you have a switch in place, the costs after sep 30 until the switch happens remain at the current rates.

if you compare your unit costs in your bill they will have reduced from around June onwards. Google govt £50 green budget reduction.

Really, are those two points guaranteed? Firstly that you can't be fined if your switch happens to occur faster than expected, a few weeks before the expiry date of the fix?

And more interestingly, for me, that the fixed rate tariff gets a few weeks' extension if your switch away takes longer than expected?

The first sounds (unusually) fair, given that switch dates can't be chosen. The second, given you have the option of the first scenario, sounds generous and too good to be true!

I never knew either of those things, if true it makes timely switching much less hassle

New rules were introduced by ofgem at the end of last year. Google ofgem price protection window.

M&S sent me a letter confirming the end of the fix and offering a new deal. On the back it confirmed no exit fee and the continuation of the existing deal as long as they received notice of the move by 28th October.
