So I found out where cold callers were getting our number from, http://www.britishdatacompany.co.uk/
The 0800 number to ring to stop them giving out your details tells you to ring an 0904 number which is expensive and they profit from it! I have now sent an email, wonder if they will answer?
So who are they? Anyone have a landline for them? Perhaps we should use their number and fill in lots of double glazing forms??

    FYI
The domain's registrant shares the same name as one of the Directors of Brit's Data Company Ltd (Co No 082246240); however this company is about to be struck off by Companies House.
Aurangzeb Iqbal has a number of other very new Directorships such as:-
Hearing Clinic CMC Ltd, Industrial Disease Services Ltd and Industrial Hearing Concern Ltd

The cold callers and the website are one and the same. It's a very clever but nasty scam. Householders are directed towards the website and the freephone number. I've just rung it and got a recorded message telling me that the new number is 09042697249. This is a premium rate number which costs up to £1.53 per minute or a single fee of £1.53 from a BT landline.

The owner of the website and the man behind the scam was struck off as a solicitor in 2004. His appeal against suspension in March this year was refused and he was ordered to pay costs of £1477. Perhaps he's short of money?

I have put a warning on Web of Trust.

Many thanks to knightstyle for highlighting this scam and also thanks to Castle for the valuable extra information.

Got a reply to my complaint to the regulatory body:

    Dear +++++++++++,
We write in reference to your complaint relating to the service operating on 09042697249 and the outcome of our investigation.
After thoroughly examining the evidence PhonepayPlus identified the service to be operating in breach of our Code of Practice.
    Breach Identified:
    · Calls made to the number 08009557897 are being directed by an automated message to call the premium rate number 09042697249. No pricing information is provided on the automated message on the 0800 number.
Given the nature of the breach, PhonepayPlus has taken the decision to deal with this matter using our informal procedure and allow the provider to rectify the issues raised.
PhonepayPlus is satisfied the provider has now rectified these issues and the service is operating compliantly.

    Refund Claims
The provider has agreed to provide refunds to consumers who make a valid claim. Should you wish to discuss a refund you will need to contact the provider directly.
Please note you may be asked to provide a copy of your phone bill highlighting the relevant premium rate charge(s) before a refund is issued.

Good work Knightstyle for getting a response from Phonepayplus. Out of interest I have just tried phoning the 0800 listed and it's now out of action; so a result. I'm not sure what part "Totally Inbound" have played in this "scam", but so long as people can get their money back, it doesn't really matter who pays it.

Well I think you need permission to post.
Do you really expect us to believe you answer their calls? Who would ring them? It is they who cold call prospective clients which is what we are trying to stop.
