Selling Motorhome via BuyMyMotorHome.com

I'd like to pass on my personal, unpleasant and very disturbing experience with the sales manager and her underling at this company.

Basically, we were offered a relatively low price for our Compass Avantgarde over the phone by them. We received an email, confirming the offer subject to them reviewing the motorhome.

A driver - contracted by BuyMyMotorHome from a company I now believe to be ProDrive, was then sent via public transport to collect it. He got lost and eventually my wife had to pick him up.

Prior to this, I had heard hearsay reports of some of the practices of this company - some of which are loosely referred to in this thread - so I asked my wife to confirm that there would be no charge to us if we decide not to accept their offer.

Both our contact at BuyMyMotorHome and the driver who collected the vehicle both told my wife that they would return the vehicle at no charge.

We were contacted by BuyMyMotorhome with a revised offer of almost 50% of the original offer. Which was insulting. The person making the call was offensive and insulting to my wife and effectively accused her of lying.

At this point, my wife asked my to
contact BuyMyMotorhome as she felt humiliated by the person she spoke to. My intention was to simply arrange for the motorhome to be returned to us.

It was only then that the manageress told me that she would not return the motorhome unless we paid for it to be returned.

The situation became rather emotional and as I write this I am awaiting a price from BuyMyMotorHome to return the vehicle.

I fully intend making a claim against them in the small claims court for this cost.

I'll post an update soon on how things progress.

Has anyone had similar (or even GOOD) dealings with this company or can offer advice or share experiences ?

  • Read everything you have in writing for any evidence of the cost of returning the vehicle.

Looking at their website they state:
Where Open Road Leisure Ltd have agreed to collect and deliver the leisure asset for the Seller a charge for this service will be agreed in advance
  • Thanks Inside Insurance,
There is nothing in any of the emailed documents that states any charges would apply. I also note from your quote that any such charges "would be agreed in advance". This was certainly not agreed.

    Thanks for your contribution.

Do you have a set of T's and C's? There could be something in there, maybe in your favour, maybe not.

Also maybe consider Citizens Advice Bureau, they may be able to at the very least point you in the right direction.

Just remember, whilst it can be upsetting, don't say or do anything in emotion and try to get any assurances etc they may give (though this does sound unlikely) in writing.

Thanks for that, we've checked the T's & C's - which are not in any official communication we've had with them (and as a previous responder mentioned, it does say that any fees would be agreed in advance. This was definitely not the case.

And just as an update, I've had a further call from them stating that they wish to charge me £200 to return the vehicle. I've asked for this in writing or by email.

I'll keep going on this and as always, any comments or similar experiences would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks.

I wonder if you refuse to have it delivered back, will they then start charging for storage?

It could be argued that the charge that was agreed in advance was £0.00 as this was what the OP was quoted.
