Help please, cancel virgin flight.

Hi, don't know if this is the right place to post, feel free to point me in the right direction if not!
but i really need some advice. I have a Virgin flight booked for October that I need to cancel, I have spoken to Virgin and they haven't been very helpful.
I basically just cannot go on the flight now, there is no reasons like bereavement ect. But I am lost as to what to do now.

I got told I can pay to have the money on hold for another flight (within the next year) or change it so some else's name, but I don't have anyone who would want the flight and would have no need for a virgin flight within the next year.
Does anyone know if I can get a refund? Or have I just got to right the money off?m

What are the rules of the ticket that you bought?
It sounds like it is non-refundable which usually means that you get some of the taxes back and would claim the remainder off insurance if the circumstances were covered (or write the rest off if not)
Not heard of Virgin allowing name changes and having the money to use for another flight also sounds unusual
    What is the route?

I don't think Virgin are being unhelpful, they are likely abiding by the rules of the contract that you agreed to when you purchased the ticket
  • The circumstances won't be covered by my insurance, so I think I will just claim back what I can and write the rest off, thank you.
I have called virgin again and they said its new rules that I can change the name or divert the flight for a year.

Have you got a quote for how much each option costs?

I would assume you will get back very little if you cancel the flight whereas you maybe able to seel the flight to someone els if name changes are possible (never used to be -for exactly this reason).
  • It depends where you are going. Virgin are scrapping Vancouver as of 11 OCT. So they would have to refund you if it was that route.
Cape Town, Mumbai and Tokyo are binned next year too.

Virgin's Little Red flights are about to be scrapped as well.

If it's one of them then hold off and get a refund when they announce the cancellation.
