House buyers insist on 'No vote' clause for Scottish purchases

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/scottish-independence/11076072/House-buyers-insist-on-No-vote-clause-for-Scottish-purchases.html

Solicitors disclose that wealthy house buyers are making offers subject to a clause ensuring they can walk away if there is a Yes vote on September 18.

A fair indication of the direction of HP's in Scotland should there be a yes vote.
In case you hadn't already worked it out - the entire global financial system is predicated on the assumption that you're an idiot:cool:

What a load of cwap, the daily desperation continues.

Project fear really does have a version for everyone.

I notice they also managed to lump a "scare" quote from Cameron (The man who wasn't getting involved) at the bottom of the article.

I think I will go and put an offer on a property, with a clause saying the deal is off if a no vote wins.

This is the kind of article that the real voters can see right through.
  • “There are often conditions put on offers, but the new one is where it says ‘in the event of a yes vote on 18 September the purchasers can resile from the bargain’, meaning ‘walk away from the contract’,” he told the Edinburgh Evening News.

“I received one offer for a flat conditional on a no vote last week. I have spoken to other agents and it is increasing as we are getting nearer to the referendum. At the moment there is a general air of uncertainty, and no market likes uncertainty.

Potential buyers are also unsure what would happen to mortgages after a series of expert reports warned a separate Scotland would pay higher interest rates.

    Very sensible.

What bank will issue a mortgage after a Yes vote anyway?

When they have no idea what the currency will be, what the central bank will be, or what the interest rates will be.
“The great enemy of the truth is very often not the lie – deliberate, contrived, and dishonest – but the myth, persistent, persuasive, and unrealistic.

Belief in myths allows the comfort of opinion without the discomfort of thought.”

Do you seriously think that this will halt house sales.
Your being desperate if you think so.

How did the Eurozone cope when they moved to the Euro?

There will be no collapse on 19th September if Yes prevails.
There will be a period of negotiation and an opportunity to adjust if the currency was to change.

Do you really think I would be able to default on my mortgage if the currency changes?

If anything, people on here are talking about how much stronger the ROUK pound will be compared tot he Scottish currency and hence there is opportunity to captialise on the changeover from the backs to any potential new currency.

Let's be real instead of scaremongering.

I wonder who this subset of eligible voters who aren't real are? Do they know? What are the criteria?

Real Scots vote SNP. Presumably the not real ones are the Unionists, traitors etc.

Thank you for the clarification, it was bothering me somewhat.

The real voters are people who actually have a vote.

Most of the doom mongers on here don't have a vote.

    Of course it will.

If there's a yes vote then I think most mortgage lending will fairly rapidly cease until the currency issue is resolved.

As will business lending, business investment, etc.
Your being desperate if you think so.

You're being naive if you think otherwise.
How did the Eurozone cope when they moved to the Euro?

They knew which currency they were moving to.

    We have no idea.

    Not on 19th Sept, no.

It'll take days, weeks and months for all the negative consequences to appear, but appear they will.
There will be a period of negotiation and an opportunity to adjust if the currency was to change.

I've moved a 6 figure sum out of Scotland and Scottish banks. My family have all done similar.

I would advise anyone else to do the same.

    Which Scottish banks?

All the banks are UK banks until after the 18 month negotiation period is finished.

By then we will have a better idea of the situation of how things will be after the independent date.

The common sense option would be to leave things as they are and see what happens.

You're trying to cause a run on the banks before we have even voted.

    Despicable!

TSB, along with investment funds out of Scotland based and registered pension and asset managers.

The only money I keep locally now is a few weeks living expenses, and even this will be withdrawn into cash by the 18th.

    Don't be daft.

Capital movement controls to prevent capital flight are very likely, as I expect there almost certainly would be a run on the banks if there's a yes vote.

Anyone with any sense would be getting their money out of Scotland now.
