Seller backed out of sale.
Options
Hi guys, I have recently purchased a car with a private individual, paid £500 deposit and will be picking car up on wensday.
I have taken out a loan 11k, booked flight tickets, paid for insurance of said vehicle.
Seller just contacted me to say they don't want to sell it now.
I look stupid now as I've told everyone I'm getting it.
Is there anything I can do legally, obviously we didn't sign a contract but he's left me out of pocket and left me feeling very cheesed off after having took out a big loan for the loan, plus the flight tickets and the insuring of the vehicle.

Other than get your deposit back (and probably a little good will) there is little you can do, I took out a loan for a car in the past and found I didn't need it, I was not charged any interest for the monies.
I'm sure there will be similar examples for you to see, did you actually inspect the car?0 -

Hi there, I haven't expected the car but it's part of a prestiege owners club and owner is on there, he put up a for sale thread last week, talked a few days and struck a deal.
He really has looked after the car and it's an absoloute steal for what I am paying, every optional extra ticked. I doubt I would find a fully specced one for 13k for what it's been sold at very a very long time,0 -
There's nothing you can do about the fact that you can't get the car for that price elsewhere. (That may well be why he's pulling out of the sale!) And there's nothing you can do about looking stupid. But I would have thought that you would be entitled to out of pocket expenses.
Have you got a paper trail (e.g. emails) that show him agreeing to sell you the car and for you to collect it on Wednesday, along with applications for the loan, flights and insurance after this was agreed?
If so, I would have thought that if you cancel what you no longer need because of him pulling out as soon as possible then he should be liable to pay for any charges that doing so incurrs.
Whether it is worth suing him for these charges if he doesn't pay up or not is another question and will depend on how much you are genuinely out of pocket by.0 -

Just got off the phone to him, he has agreed to sell it after i've agreed to pay him an extra £500 on collection, not something I wanted to have done but I really don't want to miss out on it.
I'm going to see if i can cancel the flight and get down there ASAP before he changes his mind again.
I've got all the paper trailer, email and txt message, flight confirmation, loan confirmation and so on as evidence if it goes tits up again.0 -

For me, when selling a car, if a prospective buyer has not inpsected it in the flesh, then their deposit and offer does not count for anything.
Sellers can soon remind you of the many emails of " the car is exactly what I'm looking for for my son in law etc" , the last car I sold I specifically put no text or emails, I was still getting them, only the voice callers were spared my time.
I'm surprised the seller even agreed to a sale by email without visual inpsection.0 -
