to Eon Malc for the advice: spot on, I spoke with the collective switch company.
They were able to confirm that because my current tariff ends within the next 42 days (just!), they were able to switch us now to the collective tariff. It was within £12 of the cheapest "never heard of them" company, so we have gone straight ahead and stayed with Eon :-)
