Car Engine water tank, Empty and 'driven' for 10 days! Potential engine damage ?

    I would be more worried where the coolant has gone.
  • Would definitely have the car checked over - my old Matiz had a cracked radiator and the coolant was leaking, but my OH's old Rover was burning the coolant off.

  • As its only the expansion bottle and heater matrix was empty, there may have been enough water in the radiator circulating around the engine to keep it from going pop.

    I would re-fill and change the thermostat and keep on eye on the coolant level and temperature.
