So my husband turns 30 in February. I think we can manage a trip to New York for it. He doesn't think we can afford it. I don't like being wrong!
I think we'll need around £1,500 including spending money.
Between now & then we both have birthdays and there's Christmas. We plan to ask our respective parents for money towards the trip. Can't really budget for that though as we're not sure how much it'll be.
We currently have £575 in savings.
My salary is increasing by around £144 from this month. If I save that it's an extra £720 before we go.
We're respite foster carers and have a week booked in October which should bring in around £450 (conservative estimate).
Over and above this, we currently save around £100 per month (£500).
We have a family holiday booked for December but it's all inclusive so shouldn't cost too much.
Wish me luck!

Love the idea of New York for a big birthday. Good luck with your challenge.
Maybe have a nosey at prices and stuff on expedia and places. I have been looking at April and it is costing about £2000 for us both (although we are flying from a regional airport).
Oh, and watch out for the cheat-y wording... some of the hotels aren't close to manhattan at all yet they still class them as New York City.
Good Luck.
