What to do with unwanted goods?

Hi,
Looking for some advice. I recently ordered a new cot mattress online. It arrived last week in perfect nick, v happy with it, but also in the delivery was another larger, unordered mattress.
I called the company to let them know and left a message explainin and asking someone to call back. They didn't. I called back a few days later and spoke to a disinterested man who said he would arrange a courier to pick it up. I asked when that would be, he said he would, "book it and call back". That was Monday. He still hasn't called.
So I'm left with the muckle great mattress in my hall with no clue what to do with it? I don't see why I should keep chasing them and then have to wait in for a courier for their mistake. Can I ditch it without fear of reprisal?

Unfortunately not. There is a procedure to follow when something like this happens.

You basically need to send them two written notices containing certain information. I would also include dates/times you're likely to be available, ask them to arrange collection for one of those days and ask them to let you know in advance which date they will be collecting. You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride0 -
Thank you! That is enormously helpful. :-)0

Not that it matters, but why on earth did you accept delivery of the 'muckle great mattress'?0
