SoGA doesn't even promise a brand spankin' new car will be perfect for six months. It _certainly_ doesn't do anything of that kind for a decade-old car for a grand...

If that's your budget, buy privately - you will get a MUCH better car for the same money, or the same car MUCH cheaper. Just think about how a dealer can make money on selling a car for a grand, whilst taking his overheads and legal outgoings and responsibilities into account...

Hes just after saying theres little or no difference in price between dealer & private?

Dont forget these days most private buyers think their car is worth what dealers are charging and price accordingly.

Depends how old the car and how much you are paying.

The warranty isn't free, as you would expect to pay less to a private seller than a dealer would charge for the same car.

And the SoGA isnt a warranty.

Under the SOGA the dealer "warrants" the condition of the car. That is to say, it is as described and free from defects.

Thats different from a warranty whereby the dealer "guarantees" that if a defect develops he will cover the cost of the repair.
