Car for 3 kids under 5!?

  • VW Passat. We had no problems getting three kids seats side by side in one with a huge boot space aswell. We've since changed cars and now got another baby on the way. Hubby argued that we need to go to a people carrier but what's the point in spending more money getting one for the few times that we're all away together (2 kids live at their mums and don't often want to go nice places either us) and very little leg room in back row and zero boot space in them so you need a roof box for luggage or second car anyway.

  • Ford Galaxy. We have a mk II which has all full seats (not the flexi ones like in the Zafira). The full seats mean we can get car seats on all of them. Obviously if you have three across the middle it might be fiddly plugging seat belts in if they're in boosters but certainly doable. I like the height of the seats as well because you don't need to bend double while you're clunking and clicking!

As an added bonus, all of our seats are removable (with the exception of the driver's of course!). This came in handy for a recent trip to ikea!! Was like having a van!

We had 2 high backs and one rear facing baby bucket in a Toyota Yaris and I now do the school run with 4 kids between 4-11 in a Nissan Micra. It can be done, we only got a 7 seater(Renault Megane Grand Scenic) after the 4th child was born as me and dh rarely go anywhere together so I tend to use the Micra with the kids while he drives the Renault on his own (???)
