Letter before claim

hi,
I am new to this and after an hour or so's reading on here, I am not sure which thread to look at.
In August 2013, I had a parking ticket stuck to my car in a carpark outside a block of flats. I was not parked in a space, there is not sufficient parking and there were signs. I was clearly wrongly advised to ignore all the letters which I thought had stopped but now I have had a (what I think is genuine) solicitors "Letter before Claim" for £160. I am tempted to pay the amount to make it all stop, but I don't think the original £60 penalty was fair and I am no longer the registered keeper of the car (as of January 2014). The car was written off and registration passed onto a company. I am surprised that they have continued to chase this long.
I have looked for template letters but can't find anything referring to my particular situation - please correct me if I am wrong. Can anyone point me in the right direction or give me advice please?

LBC info in linked in the crabman sticky thread near the top of this forum
dont believe all the letters you may get are by solicitors, so name the solicitor in case its a debt collector sc*m letter
use the forum search tool as well, putting in the so called solicitors name
which PPC is it ?0 -
Who is the parking company please? And who are the debt collectors and so called solicitors with this?
ThanksWhen posting a parking issue on MSE do not reveal any information that may enable PPCs to identify you. They DO monitor the forum.
We don't need the following to help you.
Name, Address, PCN Number, Exact Date Of Incident, Date On Invoice, Reg Number, Vehicle Picture, The Time You Entered & Left Car Park, Or The Amount of Time You Overstayed.

''LBCCC Fightback'' is a thread collated by Crabman, with template letters written by retired Solicitor zzzLazyDaisy. Crabman's parking forum stickies are very near the top of this forum board. Don't pay to 'make it all stop'.hi,

Yes that's old, out of date 2 year old advice - and there's no way you would have read that on threads in this forum in August 2013.I was clearly wrongly advised to ignore all the letters
Please answer Stroma's questions as well as reading the template advice to respond to a LBCCC as advised by zzzLazyDaisy.
Some PPCs never try Court - so don't just pay, that would be particularly silly if it was a firm we know are easy peasy to beat. We need to know who the PPC and Solicitor is.PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

Thanks for your help all...
The LBC letter is from Gladstones Solicitors.
The PPC is New Generation Parking Management
I have read zzzLazyDaisy 's post and wrote a letter to the claimant directly: New Generation Parking Management, asking if they are the registered owner of the land, to provide proof or this and POPLA if they wish to proceed with the charge. I said that I believed that the £60 charge has been inappropriately calculated for the short amount of time the car was parked and requested that they cancel the charge. No response received.
Although the letter looks genuine, it asks for a "written response within 14 days". But 14 days from the date of the letter or when it was received?? It is quite repetative over the 14 days thing - it mentions it 3 times!
Thanks for pointing me in the right direction. I guess the next step is to read thoroughly zzzLazyDaisy 's post and Crab man on your advice. Hence write to the solicitors (It has been almost 14 days from the date I received it as I was hoping for a response from New Generation Parking.)0 -
No chance of NGP responding usefully, if at all, IMHO. Plough on with your formal reply to Gladstones.PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).
