Trying to close TSB eSavings account!

Hi guys,

Ive got a TSB eSavings account which I havnt used for 2 years. Id like to close it, but when I try to close it online it says I have to go to a branch. When I go to a branch they say I can only close it online. Ive gone back n forth!

Can someone point me to a web page or confirm what I need to do to close this account!? (Ive also phoned TSB and they said I can only close it online).
Thanks

In my experience, you can't close an account online in any bank in the Lloyds group (which all use the same internet banking set-up). If you call them they should be able to send you an account closure 'form' which is essentially just a small-sized piece of card which has their address on the outside which you put your account number on, fold over and pop straight in the post. Alternatively, you can switch the account into another which automatically will close it.

It's not a current account, but a savings account, which you can't switch. :)

I would suspect that the problem is that you have not used the account for 2 years.

The banking terms and conditions do state that if you do not use an account for 12 months they will suspend it and may need to chaeck your identity.

Is there not a phone number to use or an email enquiry address?

If all else fails contact the complaints section.

No idea about TSB, but if you run the balance of a Halifax savings account down to less than a fiver online closure suddenly becomes possible.

I am afraid that use of this phrase should lead to a long ban from posting.

Incorrect. Some bank of Scotland savings accounts can be closed online.

I've not had a savings account (apart from Club Lloyds monthly saver) with any of the Lloyd's group, just current accounts which I've always found can't be closed online. It'd have helped if I'd have read the title of the thread instead of assuming the OP had a current account!

I've closed a Halifax account online. There was hardly any money in it, so that might make a difference.
  • From my experience branch gave you the wrong advice only way to close accounts is in branch.
