really struggling with claiming or knowing what were entitled to, trying to work out if its worth my partner returning to work or not, if we had a income of roughly 15k a year what would we be able to get ? its a mortgaged property with a child under 1 in part time nursery any idea ? cheers

Since you seem to be having some difficulty working this out (no offence meant!) I suggest that you go to CAB and ask for a better off calculation using the Quick benefit check.
You will need to take with you both your P60s and your bank statements and payslips showing you and your wife's income before she went on maternity leave and after she went on maternity leave. Also you will need to know how much council tax you pay.
They can put different scenarios into the calculator. eg your wife not working/your wife working part time/your wife not working.
Tax credits are difficult to work out because of all the different 'rules'.
