Halifax monthly fee debt

Hi all. I've just revived a letter from 1st credit acting on behalf of Halifax.stating that I owe 1200 pounds. This is from an account abandoned long ago, that was not overdrawn. It's from a monthly fee. Can anyone help?

Actually, it probably is stature barred. But although the debtor may not be forced to pay it back, the detail of it may remain on his/her credit record and that could have an adverse effect on any future requests for credit etc.
