You need to close your claim for JSA (telephone the Job Centre) and make a claim for ESA.

You will probably be fit for work before you get a medical assessment for your ESA so you then can close your ESA claim and make a rapid reclaim for JSA.

You can have 2 periods of sickness for 14 days per year whilst on JSA.

You really need to start your own thread to get more replies. Go to the benefits forum and use the new thread button at the top and copy and paste your question.

First of all your ESA will be backdated to when your SSP stopped. You need to ask for this.

Until you get your money you need to:

    1. Go to the Job Centre and ask for a food voucher or go to CAB and do the same.
    2. As regards the gas and electric telephone them and ask for some help. Are you on a meter?

Jobcentres don't generally hand out food vouchers, although there may be local arrangements. You need to either contact your local council to ask about support from them or phone ESA back and ask about a Short Term Benefit Advance (STBA). A decision on STBA has to be made within 24 hours and generally results in your benefit claim being processed. If they have looked at your claim I don't understand why they are saying it will be 3 weeks before you get any money. Payments are made every 2 weeks so you are way past the point where a payment is due.
Get back onto ESA in the morning and, unless there is any information outstanding, you may well get payment by tomorrow night.
