The Joys of Car Hire

.... especially when you've handed over your credit card details:

Regrettably, most car hire companies require a credit card. The problem is, when these criminals have access to your card details they treat it as an open cheque book, as the case above so admirably demonstrates. It is, of course, an extreme case, but it does highlight the issue.

How to avoid giving the criminals access to your CC:

Well, in Portugal (Faro) at least, you can use ZitAutos. If you take out their very reasonably priced insurance you don't need to give them your card details (2 week hire, good sized estate/hatchback, 520 EUR including insurance).
