Has anyone ever had EMDR Therapy?

Its something that myself and my counsellor have been discussing as something that might be beneficial for me.
I've been doing research on the technique but I'd quite like some first hand experiences if anyone has done it?
Thanks

EMDR is fairly new in some parts of the NHS; and EMDR is only suitable for a small number of patients with specific conditions and comorbidities. You need to speak to health professionals regarding it, and to see if you're suitable for the treatment before getting your hopes up.
Speak to your GP as a first port of call to get a referral to see if it is something that you may benefit from - counsellors aren't doctors, and they shouldn't be pushing treatment options.
I'm sure your local mental health sector will have useful contacts as well.
And I wouldn't post this kind of question on a money saving forum - you need to have direct medical opinion for whether you can even have the treatment before you look into experiences of it. You don't say what your MH issue(s) is/are, so can't help you there.0 -
I've had EMDR and it was helpful for me so you can only really try it for yourself.:) It is supposed to be helpful for anyone who has PTSD.HOUSE MOVE FUND £16,000/ £19,000

It is only useful for SOME who have PTSD; massive studies show it can have zero effect on some PTSD sufferers, hence why the OP needs to get sound medical advice before they go down this route.0 -

Well, if it had zero effect then obviously the OP would try it once and not go back for more sessions so I don't really see why that would be a problem. If they get it through the NHS they would have to go to their GP anyway to be referred.HOUSE MOVE FUND £16,000/ £19,000
