carpenter v doing it yourself

So after much deliberation, we have chosen to go for a black composite door with sidelights. The carpenter would just be buying it on line and then fitting it. My dad has offered to do it which would mean we'd only need to shell out £970 for door and no fitting charge. Is it a good Idea to not have a carpenter do the work, or is it one of those things that need to be done by a professional. My dad is good at diy and isn't one to bodge.

Does the door come "in frame". If it does, then I'd trust your dad
. A bit of time, patience and an eye for detail is required. If he has that, great.

Doozergirl - will the fact it has glazed side panels not make it liable for fensa registration/BC signoff??Perfection takes time: don't expect miracles in a day0

Really? Never thought we'd need that sort of thing?
It will be coming with a frame, yes.0 -
Not 100% sure - hence I asked Doozergirl who'll be more familiar with building regs on replacement doors and windows as part of her building co.
Maybe Baldwindowfitter could help??

Thank you. Just been quoted £280 to remove existing door and fit the new door and sidelights.0

The glass would, yes. Needs to be toughened as it will be at floor level. Just requires an app to the local building control and one inspection once it's been fitted.
Check with the supplier that it's the right kind of glass, OP.Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.
