The Hungry Horse near me is actually my local, just at the end of my road.

Everytime I ask about the curry on Wednesday, they only seem to have chicken korma and vegetable masala. Neither of which I like (curries need to be hot for me to enjoy them). Maybe five or six times I've asked, only to be offered these two meals. Then end up spending more money on something different (around £8-9 instead of the expected £4.99).

The curry at my local JD Wetherspoon is £5.15 including a pint, with a better selection of curries and pints. Definitely recommend this (and the total bargain £5.75 steak+pint on Tuesday, especially considering I live in one of the country's most expensive cities).

I've just got back from my local which is a HH. Had a big plate special 8oz Sirloin for £8.49 with free starter. Steak was cooked just how I like it so no complaints from me.

We discovered our local a few months ago and enjoyed a Golden Years meal, which suited us fine; smaller portions but two courses for £4.49.


This menu is rather restricted, having only a few choices, but they are happy to swap the potato option between mash, new potatoes or chips.


I wasn't keen on the steak and ale pie or apple pie, but that is because they obviously microwaved to heat and I like my pastry crisp. However, the chicken breast (cooked skinless) and gammon steak with pineapple or egg were very tasty and the ice cream option a huge (for me) three large scoops with sauce.

I had (half of) the 2 meals for £7 at Crown Carveries.

The Half Roast Chicken was excellent, as was the Quorn Lasagne. Each combined with unlimited veg from the carvery meant excellent VFM.
