Hi all, im after a bit of advice if possible.
Im currently on maternity leave and not due back to work until January. I have been with the company for 12 years and 3 months.
Over the past couple of months the company hasnt been doing very well at all, i've now had a phone call from another member of staff saying that i am being made redundant and that they are going to be doing it by letter and that i should have it in the next 2 weeks. THe owner of the business hasnt been in contact with me since i have been off (over 4 months!) and has even started to pay me by cheque even though my contract specifically states that i am to be paid by BACS.
My main questions are: can they make me redundant by letter without consulting me?
Should they give me a notice period to be made redundant or can they just state that from the date of the letter i am redundant?
Also - Before i went on maternity leave the company gave us all a 20% pay cut, but didnt give us anything in writing at all, they didnt alter our contract or ask us to sign a new one. Would they be allowed to work out my redundancy on the pay cut wage?
When i am made redundant, would i be entitled to any training grants to help me train in another occupation?
Im sorry to ask so many questions, ive never been in this circumstance before, hope someone can help
Many thanks

If the company is going down I would be more concerned about getting paid than them getting the process correct. If the jobs gone its gone.
If 20 or more people then there should be 30days consultation 100 or more 45 days.
You do have some extra rights as on maternity you will need to look them up.
The pay of can be on the new wages as by just accepting the new pay without a grievance or work under protest you have accepted the change in terms.
(should have had notice for that change)
Pay out should be
12 weeks full pay(maternity pay can make up part of that) for notice
Redundancy 12 years service so 12 weeks pay(capped at £464) + extra if yu have hit your 42 birthday by the relevant date which will be at least 12 more weeks and will depend on when and how you are terminated.0
